Sunshine Serpents Educational Programs and Presentations

Are you looking for an interesting program for your next event? Sunshine Serpents offers a variety of presentations designed for various age groups and specialty levels. Led by veteran teacher, lecturer and reptile specialist Daniel Parker, these programs are both enjoyable and educational. Parker has spoken for school groups, scout troops, and summer camps as well as reptile shows and herpetological societies. We have several different presentations geared towards different audiences. Here are the presentations we offer:
REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS OF FLORIDA Audiences get the chance to see live animals and learn about their natural history and conservation. Safety in the outdoors is emphasized. The information is presented in an entertaining format geared toward children and general audiences. This presentation lasts around 45 minutes.
Snakes of Florida An overview of the snakes of Florida with emphasis on identification, safety, and conservation. Includes live animals and powerpoint for a 45 minute session. Audience has the opportunity to touch and see snakes up close as they learn about their natural history and habits. This program works well for general audiences. It can be geared toward companies and organizations that do work in the outdoors.
Field Herping Across the U.S.A. Daniel Parker gives a whirl wind photographic tour of his travels around the country and the herps he has found along the way. This program includes powerpoint and works well for reptile shows, herp society meetings, and other gatherings of serious herpers. This presenatation runs around one hour.
Field Herping Texas Daniel Parker documents his travels to east, west, and south Texas in search of the gray-banded kingsnake, Texas indigo snake, Mexican milksnake and many other interesting and beautiful herps. Also included are notes from neighboring Louisiana. This program includes powerpoint and works well for reptile shows, herp society meetings, and other gatherings of serious herpers. This presenatation runs around one hour.
Field Herping Florida A lifelong Florida resident, Daniel Parker documents his extensive field experience in the Sunshine State. From the flatwoods of Apalachicola, to the ancient dune scrub of the Lake Wales Ridge, to the vast marshy expanse of the Everglades, Parker has herped them all and documented some of the state’s most interesting herp species in photographs. This program includes powerpoint and works well for reptile shows, herp society meetings, and other gatherings of serious herpers. This presenatation runs around one hour.
North American Rat Snakes-Natural History and Captive Care With a new emphasis on snakes that make good display subjects, rat snakes of the species Elaphe obsoleta have experienced a recent surge in popularity in the specialty pet trade. This species is one of our long term specialties at Sunshine Serpents. We have bred all of the subspecies and worked with many different morphs and localities. Daniel Parker has also caught and photographed all of the subspecies and many geographic variants in the wild. In this presentation, we discuss techniques for keeping and breeding these snakes in captivity. We also discuss the habits and habitats of wild rat snakes and how to find them. This program includes powerpoint and works well for reptile shows, herp society meetings, and other gatherings of serious herpers. This presenatation runs around one hour.
