In the wild, the Key Rat or Deckert's Rat occur from the extreme southeast mainland of Florida through the Upper Florida Keys all the way to Grassy Key. It is rarely seen in the wild and only a few breeders are working with it in captivity. Deckerti is characterized by a combination of stripes and blotches throughout life, with yellowish-orange to deep burnt orange background. The eyes are often a glowing red color. Many specimens also develop gray flecks in the pattern. This is one of the most beautiful naturally occurring forms of obsoleta.
